LIVE TWEETING

Today, technology is a crucial aspect of communication and connection within our current social climate. As such, it is heavily relied on for the transmission of ideas, information, intelligence and ideologies between peers and individuals alike. This is evident through the process of live tweeting. Live tweeting refers to writing tweets about an event or occurrence, on twitter, at the time the event is unfolding (Christison, 2022). The effect of this practice is to spark conversations and create discussion about a common topic, in real time; in an effort to connect with your audience and create engagement with the circumstances. Live tweeting is an excellent source of rapport when analysing films and engaging with media sources, simultaneously with others. The study of the cyberworld has aided me significantly in crafting live tweets, as we explore different themes within films; this is because a technological study is utilising technological processes to enact the content. Cybernetics is “the science of communications and automatic control systems in both machines and living things” (Dictionary.com. 2023).

Live tweeting is a cybernetic example as it is the communication between the students (the living things) and twitter (the automatic control system) to broadcast ideas and theories and pose questions as they arise to establish connections with the audience. Additionally, cyberspace refers to the online realm which harbours technological communication media to foster rapport and interrelationship conversations between individuals. Twitter acts as a platform within the cyberspace as it enables and encourages discourse between users through comments, likes, and retweets.

Live tweeting while watching a set of films in recent weeks, has multiplied my engagement rate significantly, as I must observe and listen to the film content to complete the task. This aids in thoughtfully curating my thoughts and analysis; and opens up the opportunity for well thought out discourse between myself and my peers. For example, while watching Blade Runner I stated in a tweet, “it’s a film set so far in the future, yet it still depicts current world issues like homelessness, an interesting connection.”

From here, this tweet was liked 5 times by my other peers and retweeted onto someone else twitter page. These actions demonstrated that from my understanding of the subject materials and carefully focused analysis, this tweet provided new a new perspective and presented meaningful insight within the context of the film. From here, I also received 3 comments on my post with new and nuanced ideas similar to mine while also offering further fresh perspectives.

In accordance with my original tweets, I also participated in analysis through liking, retweeting, and commenting on the ideas of others and their tweets to increase my engagement throughout each film.

The process of live tweeting is a great way to collectively discuss ideas and immediate thoughts, especially in the sense we completed it; as, it created a never-ending discussion between a large quantity of people. All the while, new ideas were discussed and added to, questions were answered and theories shared, as we all took apart the contents of these movies; almost as if it was a collective analysis of individual thoughts that only enhanced our overall understanding of the content and application from the film to our previously studied theory.
